What`s Gr5 titanium forging ring?
Gr5 Titanium Forging Rings are high-strength, lightweight, corrosion-resistant rings made from a titanium-6 aluminum-4 vanadium (Ti-6Al-4V) alloy through a forging process.
It refers to the process of manufacturing finished component parts starting from rough products, through additional shaping, machining, and grinding. In most cases, its production involves a process called ring rolling, which is carried out on rolling mills of varying sizes. Through this process, parts with strict tolerances and unique geometrical shapes, as well as excellent surface smoothness and concentricity, can be manufactured. The outer diameter of forged ring products can range from a few inches (for example, the smallest washer) to large components with diameters exceeding 9 feet (about 2.7 meters).
They are suitable for demanding applications in aerospace, medical, chemical, and other industrial sectors. Key features include a high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent fatigue resistance, and resistance to various environmental conditions such as seawater and high temperatures.
The ring rolling process begins with a round metal preform that is upset and pierced (using an open die forging process) to create a hollow "donut." This "donut" is heated above its recrystallization temperature and placed on idler or mandrel rolls. The idler rolls are then moved under pressure toward a drive roll, which continuously rotates to reduce the wall thickness and thereby increase the diameter (inside and outside diameter) of the final ring.
