High-purity titanium ingots, characterized by their exceptional purity of over 99.9% (with some high-end products reaching 99.999%), are crafted from sponge titanium or titanium scrap through melting and shaping processes under vacuum or inert gas protection, such as vacuum arc remelting (VAR) or electron beam melting (EBM), and then result in a dense metal ingot. These ingots are used in industrial applications under the standard of ASTM B248 for flat material or ASTM B348 for round material, designated as material number 3.7165, which is also utilized in medical technology for surgical implants. For medical applications, the ASTM F136 standard imposes strict requirements on chemical composition and mechanical properties, leading to Ti6Al4V being assigned the suffix "ELI" (Extra Low Interstitial) and designated Grade 23 instead of Grade 5. Titanium ingots offer numerous advantages, including resistance to rust even when stored outdoors, a lower density than steel for easier transportation, and superior strength compared to steel ingots, making them ideal for high-quality product manufacturing.
