What's the detailed process of the hot rolling titanium plate?

 

1. Heating & Rolling:

Titanium ingots are heated to a temperature of 730 to 815 °C (1350 to 1500 °F), which is higher than the recrystallization temperature.

These heated ingots are then passed through a rolling mill, which progressively reduces the thickness and shapes the metal.

The rolling process can involve multiple passes, each of which requires adjusting the temperature and downgauging amount to achieve the desired final size and performance.

2. Annealing:

After hot rolling, the titanium plate is usually annealed. The process involves heating the metal to a specific temperature and holding it for a certain period of time before cooling it down.

Annealing helps to eliminate internal stresses, refine grain structure, and improve the mechanical properties of titanium plates.

It also helps to remove surface contaminants introduced during the rolling process.

3. Finishing:

Depending on the application needs, hot-rolled titanium sheets may require further processing, such as surface treatment or cutting to specific dimensions.

For some applications, hot-rolled sheet is then used as a raw material for cold rolling to produce thinner sheets and sheets with tighter tolerances.
