Another Record High! Titanium Dioxide Production Will Increase By 606,000 Tons in 2024, An Increase Of 14.57%
On January 13th, it was learned from the Titanium Dioxide Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the Titanium Dioxide Alliance) that in 2024, China's total titanium dioxide production will hit a record high, reaching 4.766 million tons, an increase of 606,000 tons over the previous year, an increase of 14.57%.
According to Bi Sheng, secretary-General of the Titanium Dioxide Alliance Secretariat, in 2024, there will be a total of 42 full-process titanium dioxide production enterprises with normal production conditions in the industry (excluding post-processing/post-treatment enterprises), producing rutile types (including sulfuric acid method, full-process crude products, finished products, and chlorine). The total output of chemo products) and Anatase titanium dioxide and related products reached 4.766 million tons.

According to statistics, the production of rutile-type titanium dioxide was 4.051 million tons, accounting for 85.00%, a decrease of 1.54 percentage points from the previous year; the production of anatase-type titanium dioxide was 560,000 tons, accounting for 11.75%, an increase of 1.64 percentage points from the previous year; the production of non-pigment grade and other types of titanium dioxide was 156,000 tons, accounting for 3.27%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from the previous year.
Bisheng pointed out that in 2024, the output of titanium dioxide produced by the chlorination method was 660,000 tons, a decrease of 29,000 tons from the previous year, with a decrease of 4.19%, which is the first decline in recent years. The output of chlorination products accounted for 13.91% of the total output of titanium dioxide, a decrease of 2.72 percentage points from the previous year; it accounted for 16.37% of the output of rutile-type products, a decrease of 2.85 percentage points from the previous year.

In 2024, among the 40 comparable production enterprises, 10 had a decrease in output year-on-year, with the majority of the remaining factories increasing production, and a few remaining unchanged. Among them, 2 companies stopped or closed, but 2 new enterprises were added to production. Bi Sheng emphasized that in 2024, the average capacity utilization rate of the titanium dioxide industry was 80.64%, which is a relatively low figure.
In 2025, the titanium industry will usher in broader development prospects and opportunities. However, companies also need to pay attention to the challenges and risks faced by the industry, strengthen technological innovation and industrial upgrading, improve product quality and performance, so as to meet market demand and achieve sustainable development.
The development momentum of the titanium industry is still upward in 2025, with market demand improving, growth slowly rising, and prices running at low levels. Demand in aerospace, medical devices and other fields continues to grow, driving the scale of the titanium market to expand. Enterprises need to pay attention to technological innovation and product quality to cope with market competition.
