Gr5 titanium alloy wire (Ti-6Al-4V) is a high-performance material based on titanium with the addition of 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium. It possesses high strength, lightweight, and excellent corrosion resistance. Its tensile strength exceeds 900 MPa, and its density is only about 4.5 g/cm³, and it is also 45% lighter than steel.  The gr5 titanium alloy wire is widely used in aerospace, chemical, and marine engineering to manufacture load-bearing components and corrosion-resistant parts.

This material also exhibits good biocompatibility and low-temperature toughness, which makes it  suitable for medical applications such as artificial joints and dental implants, as well as aerospace devices operating in extreme environments. While processing requires specialized techniques, its properties can be adjusted through annealing or cold working to meet the stringent stability and reliability requirements of high-end applications.

Production Process of the Gr5 titanium wire

 Ingot Choosing

The selection of Gr5 titanium wire titanium ingots should be Ti-6Al-4V alloy in accordance with GB/T 3620.1, with an oxygen ≤ of 0.20%, hydrogen ≤ 0.015%, uniform and fine grains, no surface defects, and the annealing state by vacuum melting is preferred.

 Hot Forging

The production of Gr5 titanium wire requires heating the titanium ingot to 800-900℃ and rolling it through multiple passes to control the precision, ensuring uniform structure and increased strength, thus laying the foundation for subsequent wire drawing.

 Saw Cutting

For producing Gr5 titanium wire sawing, carbide band saw blades should be used, with low-speed feed and sufficient cooling to avoid high-temperature hardening, ensuring smooth cuts, stable precision, and reducing tool wear.

  Hot Rolling to Round Bars
we cut the steel billet into a round bar through rolling. This process shapes the material while maintaining its mechanical properties.

 Peeling

The oxide layer (i.e., black skin) on the surface of the round bars is removed using a stripping machine. This operation ensures a clean surface, facilitating subsequent processing.

 Wire Rolling

The peeled round steel bars are rolled into wire. The rolling parameters are adjusted to achieve the desired wire diameter.

 Second Skin Removal

Remove any residual oxide layer from the surface of the rolled wire. This ensures the surface cleanliness required for subsequent processes.

 Inspection and Grinding

Inspect the surface of the wire for defects. Use a polishing tool to remove defects and ensure a uniform surface.

 Multi-Stage Drawing

The wire is drawn through multiple dies to further reduce its diameter. This process improves the surface finish and dimensional accuracy of the wire.

 Annealing

A final annealing process is performed to eliminate any internal stress and optimize the mechanical properties of the wire.

 Quality inspection and packaging

Conduct a final quality inspection to ensure the wires meet the required specifications. Coil the finished wires for storage and transport.
