Product Introduction

What`s the titanium welding wire ?

The titanium wire is a silver-white metal with many excellent properties. The density of titanium is 4.54g/ cm³, which is 43% lighter than steel and slightly heavier than magnesium. The mechanical strength is similar to that of steel, two times larger than aluminum and five times larger than magnesium. Titanium is heat-resistant, with a melting point of 1668°C, much higher than steel.

And also the titanium welding wire is a type of filler material used in the process of welding titanium and its alloys. Welding is a fabrication process that involves joining two or more pieces of metal by melting the edges and allowing them to cool and fuse together. In the case of titanium, which has unique properties and challenges when it comes to welding, using the right welding wire is crucial to achieve strong and reliable welds.

Titanium and its alloys are known for their excellent strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature stability. However, they also have a high reactivity to oxygen, which makes them prone to contamination and embrittlement during the welding process. To overcome these challenges, specialized welding techniques and filler materials are used.

Titanium welding wire is made from titanium or a titanium alloy that is compatible with the base metal being welded. It's important to use a filler wire that matches the composition of the base metal as closely as possible to maintain the desired mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the final weld. The filler wire acts as a bridge between the pieces being welded, adding material to create a strong joint.

what`s the common type of the titanium welding wire?

There are different types of titanium welding wire, each designed for specific applications and welding methods. Some common types include:

1. 1. Commercial pure (CP) titanium welding wires: These welding wires are used to weld pure titanium and some of its low-alloy variants. They have different grades, such as Grade 1, grade 2, grade 3 and grade 4, with different levels of strength and ductility.

2. Titanium alloy wires: These wires are designed for welding specific titanium alloys, such as Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), one of the most widely used titanium alloys across various industries.

3.Special titanium welding wire: Certain applications require special titanium alloys with unique properties, such as high-temperature resistance or enhanced corrosion resistance. The wire is customized according to these specific alloy components.

The welding process for titanium involves precise control of heat input, shielding gas, and filler wire composition to prevent contamination and achieve a strong, ductile weld. Inert gas shielding, typically argon or a mixture of argon and helium, is used to protect the molten weld pool from reacting with atmospheric oxygen.

In general, titanium welding wire plays a key role in ensuring successful and high-quality welding when using titanium and its alloys, and is helpful in manufacturing components for industries such as aerospace, medical equipment, and marine engineering.

The  inspection process of the titanium welding wire:
1. Normal inspection:

Wires with a diameter of more than 3mm should be inspected with a low-magnification microscope. There should be no shrinkage holes, pores, delaminations, cracks, metal or non-metallic impurities on the horizontal low-magnification microscope.
2. Appearance quality
A. The normal surface treatment of titanium wire is pickling. If requested by the customer and specified in the contract, straight wire with a polished surface of not less than 2.0mm can be provided.
B. The surface should be clean, free of oxidation, cracks, peeling, thorns, spots, and impurities.
C. Slight scratches, abrasions, spots and pits are allowed on the surface, but shall not exceed the allowable deviation of the wire diameter.
C. The tensile test of the wire shall be carried out in accordance with GB/T228.
D. Low-magnification microscopic examination shall be performed in accordance with GB/T5168.
E. Visual inspection of product appearance quality.
