Expert: The Increase in Russian Titanium Exports To China Is The Result Of Western Sanctions And A Sign Of The Shift Of Developing Economies To High-tech Development

Maxim Chirkov, associate professor at the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurement of the Russian State University for the Humanities, said in an interview with the Russian newspaper "Izvestia" that the growth of Russia's titanium exports to China is the result of Western sanctions and a sign of developing economies shifting towards high-tech development.
At earlier time, Russian media reported that, citing data from the General Administration of China Customs, Russia's titanium sales to China increased by 44% in 2024, reaching 3,700 tons.
Chirkov explained, "This growth is not surprising. China is the world's largest economy and is actively developing the high-tech industry, where titanium plays an important role."
"Given the sanctions on Russian high-tech raw materials, titanium must move to friendly markets," Chirkov said. "
Chirkov explained that another reason for the increase in supply is that developing countries, including Russia and China, are shifting to high-tech growth.
